Over the past couple of years I have been impressed with the public attempts to decrease the historical stigma that has been attached to mental illness. For example the Vancouver Canucks have are part of an N.H.L. initiative in February and Bell Canada leads a campaign this year in January instead of the second week in February.
Probably each of us have been touched in some way by mental health issues such as anxiety and depression. Maybe a close friend, a relative or our self have been affected with these concerns. It is important to understand that we are not alone, and these disorders are more common than you think.
I applaud athletes like Clara Hughes, Kevin Bieksa, and media figures such as Michael Lansberg who have come forward with either their own experiences or concerns they have had for close friends.
Once again, with Olympian Clara Hughes front and centre, the third annual Bell Let’s Talk Day campaign will feature a national multi-media campaign that culminates on January 28, 2014. So please make sure to text and call as much as you can on that important day, I believe Bell donates .05 cents per call.
